KGFA Mourns the Recent Passing of Duane Boyd

Duane Boyd, 76, died Friday, December 30, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday January 3, 2023, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 901 Central Ave., Dodge City, with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City. Visitation will be from noon to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.

Duane Boyd, 76, died Friday, December 30, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born January 30, 1946, in Dodge City, the son of Richard William “Bill” and Erma Jean (Schultz) Boyd. He was a 1964 graduate of Ford High School and received his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary of the Plains College in 1968. He also served in the US Army Reserves. On July 15, 1967, he married Virginia Wolfe at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. 

Duane was the manager of the Offerle Co-op for nearly 40 years until retiring in 2018. He received numerous awards, including the 2020 Sunflower Award from the Kansas Grain and Feed Association, for outstanding contribution to the grain and feed industry in the state of Kansas. He was also a past chairman of the KGFA.

Prior to his Co-op work, Duane taught high school in both Spearville and Windthorst.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Dodge City), the Offerle Lions Club, 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1539 (Spearville), and Kansas Farmers Service Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially golf, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Duane also loved attending K‑State football games with Ryan.

Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Virginia; their son, Ryan Boyd, his wife Ashley, and their sons, Aaron and Nathan, Olathe; sister, Nancy Klenke and her husband Dale, South Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Denece Boyd, Wright; sister-in-law, Emily Davis and her husband Dan, Wichita; and mother-in-law, Pauline Wolfe, Dodge City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bart Boyd.
