KGFA Mourns the Passing of Monte Broeckelman

Monte L. Broeckelman, 55, passed away surrounded by his family on June 1, 2026, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Monte was born on August 9, 1970, in Smith Center, Kansas, to Wayne and Joan (Lamb) Broeckelman. He was raised on the family farm west of Esbon, Kansas, where he developed the strong work ethic, integrity, and values that would guide him throughout his life.

Monte graduated as valedictorian of the White Rock High School Class of 1988. He continued his education at Fort Hays State University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting in 1992. He later obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and began his career in public accounting with Kennedy and McKee in Dodge City, Kansas. For the next fifteen years, Monte dedicated himself to serving clients and communities through public accounting.

In 2007, Monte transitioned to the private sector, serving as Chief Financial Officer of Pride Ag Resources. In 2012, he had the opportunity to move closer to his family, and relocating to Beloit, Kansas, was a welcome change after many years away from home.

Although he enjoyed his work, his entrepreneurial spirit and lifelong dream of owning his own accounting firm never faded. In 2017, he took a leap of faith, uprooted his family, and moved to Harlan, Iowa, where he purchased a local CPA firm that became Broeckelman & Associates, P.C. Through hard work, determination, and a commitment to serving others, Monte fulfilled a lifelong dream.

Family was always at the center of Monte’s life. He welcomed two amazing sons, Derrick and Tyler, and in 1997 he met the love of his life, Gina Reed. The two were married in 2002 and built a loving home and family together in Dodge City, Kansas. With that union came two beloved daughters, Jaci and Abby, completing the family he cherished so deeply.

Monte’s wit, friendliness, and generous spirit touched countless lives. He enjoyed cheering on KU basketball, following late-model stock car dirt racing, and spending time with family and friends. Whether through his work, his community involvement, or his personal relationships, Monte had a gift for making people feel valued and welcome.

Monte will be remembered for his unwavering faith, devotion to his family, commitment to his profession, and willingness to help friends from all walks of life.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clare and Thelma Lamb and Herman and Catherine Broeckelman; his father, Wayne Broeckelman; and his father-in-law, Bill Reed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gina Broeckelman of Harlan, Iowa; his children, Derrick (Brittany) Broeckelman of Lawrence, Kansas; Tyler (Kaylor) Broeckelman of Hays, Kansas; Spencer Barry of Phoenix, Arizona; Jaci Broeckelman of Harlan, Iowa; and Abby Broeckelman of Harlan, Iowa; his grandchildren, Luna, Lillian, and Tatum; his mother, Joan Broeckelman of Esbon, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Janet Reed of Lenox, Iowa; his siblings, Mark (Sandra) Broeckelman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mike (Sharla) Broeckelman of Beloit, Kansas, and Melinda (Wes) Williams of Austin, Texas; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. A rosary will be prayed at 12:45 p.m., with visitation from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the Harlan Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will also be held at the Esbon Community Center in Esbon, Kansas, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a tribute service beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Monte’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the friends he cherished, the clients he served, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, faith, humor, and generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials.
